For half a minute, I thought we weren't going to get a verdict.
For half the show, I thought Officer Riley was the shooter or helped cover it up.
Reminded me a bit of the Homicide: Life on the Streets episode "Scene of the Crime" with the patrolman that opted "not to engage."
So, Price has seen two people get gunned down, walked in to see the results of a subway massacre, had to call 911 to try to save someone from overdosing, and now is being blamed for a cop's suicide.
If they want to write Price out of the show, him having some kind of breakdown would make a lot of sense.
Cops: ENOUGH WITH THE DAMN CHASES. EVERY SINGLE EPISODE AT THIS POINT. Otherwise, I appreciated Frank's one-liner and Shaw's comment that Cosgrove said the whitest thing he's ever heard. No real complaints outside of the running (I literally yelled, "Don't run!" before the suspect took off), nothing really groundbreaking, but it didn't have to be. I found it entertaining.
Lawyers: Jack was great here. The part about having to humanize Officer Riley, to me, was classic-Jack. It reminded me a lot of Cutter's first episode where he told Connie they needed a human face for the victim. Also, the line about the newsstand? Actually laughed at that one.
Price... man... for about half the lawyer-side, I thought he was doing fine. Then the cross-happened and, as I've repeatedly said, I feel like he should have had the witness better prepared.
That said, the suicide was telegraphed a full continent away.
A cromulent episode? Ending REALLY felt rushed though.
It was so obvious that Office Riley wouldn't take it well about having to admit he screwed up and he would end it all.
I agree with @Valens Hawke - they need to lay off the chases for a while. I get it that Mehcad is fit but please, every episode he's running to catch someone? When are detectives going to be smarter when they move to confront someone, you know, like have them approach from different directions?
It was an interesting case but I think Price did fumble it a bit with Riley on the stand. The defense attorney went overboard with his accusations and Price should have tried to bring out all those potential issues when he examined him. I don't know if this is the responsibility of the DA's office but someone should have arranged for Riley to get counseling. He was clearly distressed.
