Richard Belzer, who played John Munch on Law & Order, Law & Order SVU, and Homicide:Life On The Street (and many other shows) has died at his home in France.
I'm so sorry to see this news. He had been ill for quite some time and after reading the article and his last words, I feel very badly for him. Richard and Munch will be missed!
To the second Unknown commenter - as far as John Munch, techincally he "aged out" of the NYPD. I also think he was very happy in France. My understanding is that he has been ill for some time so I am not sure doing a TV show was right for him at that point in his life.
Richard will be missed but at least with the mention Fin made about Munch in the "Dutch Tears" episode we can hope that John Munch will live on for a while longer!
apparently it was reported that the show had frequently asked Belzer to reprise his role as Munch for cameos after his final departure from the show in 2016; unfortunately, Belzer had become too frail from health issues to make the trip from his home in France to New York
