Really looking forward to this episode. There seems to be a lot of speculation that Barba is gay and that is what they are referring to in the synopsis. I honestly wouldn't mind if this is the direction the writers want to go, but I know it might bother others. What do you think Chris?

Ana, I'm not sure exactly where they are going with Barba in this episode! The comment about going against his grandmother's wishes has me slightly perplexed !

My guess is that Barba will have to place his grandma in a nursing home. Goes along with the elderly theem for this episode and creates some good drama. Further, since she has the last name Barba, she is his father's mother- which could lead to a follow-up on the implications from Padre Sandunguero that Barba's father was abusive or horrible in some other way.

That said, I would probably squeal with delight if Barba was revealed to be bisexual. TV needs an out bi man, and most especially a bisexual person who isn't promiscuous.

I love Mercedes Ruehl, but dang, TV is really afraid of seeing women age, isn't it? She's only 66 and Raúl Esparza is 44 -- compare a couple of episodes ago, where 65-year-old Armand Assante played Amaro's dad.

Alex, your scenario seems very plausible too. We just have to wait to see the episode. I also agree with Barba and him possibly being bi. I will never understand why bisexuals are portrayed as promiscuous.

@Sidley- Mercedes Ruehl will actually be playing Barba's mom, not his grandma, so it isn't quite as bad as we'd worried!
