Here is the discussion topic for Law & Order, “Bend The Knee” which aired on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Please feel free to add any feedback you have about this episode in the comments!
A great episode. Goes to show the Mothership works best when they aren’t trying to connect cases back to the main characters. Just tell a compelling story. I still don’t know what to make of Baxter though. It seems like a situation where McCoy would have crucified that lawyer and his old pal for paying off the witness. Baxter seems too easy to bend. Also we’re now 5 episodes into this new season. Mehcad Brooks was announced as not coming back in July, you mean to say they didn’t have enough time to get his replacement plugged in by now? Maura Tierney (Brady) just isn’t working for me as someone working cases in the field. Also she’s the lieutenant, she doesn’t have other work and other detectives to be supervising? Why not just have Connie Shi as Detective Violet Yee as Riley’s partner? That’s the route they seemed like they were going. Also, where was Maroun this week? Baxter was absent last week (although he appeared on SVU). Wonder if budget is already starting to be a concern in the revival?
Yes, this was a really good episode. McCoy would have handled things differently than Baxter for sure - but I think McCoy was at a different point in his life that he felt like he could push back against political pressure. I think Baxter isn't quite in the same spot and maybe doesn't want to risk things just yet. As far as the Mehcad Brooks situation, I think the whole thing was strange from the start. It seemed to me he was on the outs last season, and I don't know why it took so long for them to resolve it. I also don't know what was all involved in the search for the replacement and when that deal was sealed to the point that filming could start with him. The whole thing has a feel of "something unexpected happened." At this point I'm okay with them using Brady as a fill in. Frankly I don't think that Connie Shi's character just would not get the interest from viewers in the detective role as would David Ajala. As far as missing Maroun, I think they do the same thing that SVU does - not feature every character in every episode (except Mariska of course) to save $.

i seem to remember somewhere mentioned about the budget and not having all cast members appear in every episode
