Law & Order SVU “The One You Feed” Discussion Topic

I really liked Duarte and the new gal joining SVU. I'm not sure why Benson was being so difficult with him. Maybe he had a bit too much swagger, but I think it's just projection over McGrath being so in the way. I hope we see Duarte again. Hopefully, given his detective moved to SVU, the door is open.
The case itself was fine. The girl that was raped is one of the daughters on CBS/Paramount+'s Evil, which is among my favorite shows. (The new smarmy guy on OC guest starred on Evil as a Satanism dude, btw.) I don't know why Olivia was so shocked about the notion you might plead out with the lesser criminals to get the bigger ones or a whole organization. They have had to do that with sex rings and the like. I understand she cares about individual victims, but after 20+ years, she has to understand that taking down the people in charge is better for safety and security for future victims. Duarte basically said as much about how the young guys would just be replaced. It made her seem out of her depth or too narrowly focused. All the more because it seemed she didn't care about the gang because it was Duarte and McGrath's concern. Maybe Oscar Papa will be involved later in the season. It would be nice to see them get him later.
Excellent start. There was a nice balance of drama and action. I liked the case, I liked Benson with McGrath - she's standing up for herself in a more confident manner. And the interaction with her and Duarte was good too. They also seem to be having a lot more on location scenes and this spices up the show and makes it seem much more real to me. I'm sure it costs more to do these scenes but IMO it's worth it to make things seem more realistic.
Man, shades of To the Bone with that gang. If it weren't for showing Sabo's home life (which, once again, is NOT something that should've been in the intro) I would've thought "Who's still letting Whoopi Goldberg take in foster kids?"
Anyway, I was at first put off by how stereotypical and, quite frankly, kind of racist the set up was (clean cut white family terrorized by minorities - basically what the Texas governor in the L&O episode would campaign on), but as the episode progressed it was less about that and more to do with Duarte. I liked that they gave him nuance and it turned out that he was a good guy after all. Perhaps we'll see him again on one of these shows.
I do like Muncy and think she'll be a great addition to the team, though I will miss Rollins.
