This was definitely different, but solid. It's better when they don't catch a bad guy in the first 20 minutes and then spend 40 stressing over a conviction. The real perpetrators were in prison (the bad uncle) and dead (Bob). It was a good character piece for Christine/Mary. Obviously, Mary needed psych care and her parents being too blind to see that was stupid. Not that it was up to them, as she's an adult. Her admitting she wanted help was well acted. The Curry stuff was completed unneeded. It was a bit like when they'd bookend episodes with Noah stuff. It wasn't relevant to the case. Plus, Curry got clocked with a damn wrench, needed stitches, yet she picks up her son with no bandage, hair perfect, and he's none the wiser his mom who he lives with nearly got a TBI. I hope they didn't sprinkle in the Curry scenes just so her son can be involved or adjacent to a crime later this season. The whole "3 rules" and taking about parties feels like foreshadowing, given Curry wasn't the focus of the episode in a special way beyond those scenes. The Benson/Carisi stuff from the premiere is solved I guess. The new assistant guy that helped Benson last week was there too with no issue. The closest thing was Carisi telling the lawyer and family at the meeting at the end that he didn't call for the meeting and it was "Benson's doing." But given the betrayal they acted like last week was, it seems odd Carisi was so chill with either of them. And there wasn't even a cursory "how can I trust you here" scene. Amanda should also be upset Benson put her husband in a bad position/made him look stupid. Maybe cut the Curry stuff if you want an ongoing Benson v Carisi thread. But much like the Tynin stuff last season, they will just wedge it in every so often and then forget it for a while, until it comes to some head in the finale.
