I can't watch the video, what does she say exactly?

MysticLady, this article has printed some quotes from the interview and some other info about the finale: http://m.eonline.com/news/755651/law-and-order-svu-s-finale-is-tragic-beautiful-and-made-mariska-hargitay-cry

Andy Karl hasn't been made a season regular and has signed on for a play. If anything happens to a character, it is probably him. There is still a lot of the Benson/Barba dynamic to deal with. I did see her therapist is in the finale. Or, perhaps it is Noah!

Thanks Sarah. I am curious as to what will happen and I hope it's not just hype. Can't help but have a bad feeling about it.

Not sure if it's just me, but the embedded video only gives me an error message. Perhaps it's also because I'm on my phone and not a computer.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the finale but I also have somewhat of a bad feeling about it and, to be totally honest, low expectations.
Something tragic and something beautiful is going to happen? I wonder if that means SVU in general or if it's Benson specific.
I just hope they don't throw in any Noah drama again, although I do want to see him in an upcoming episode again.
And the beautiful part, could that be about Benson and Tucker? God help me if he proposes or something...

As for Barba, I have to say, as much as I love his character, I almost hope they kill him off in the finale. They have kind of ruined him throughout the seasons. He started out really great and had so much potential, unfortunately he has turned into nothing more than Benson's lapdog, taking on every case she wants him to prosecute and constantly seeking her approval. It's a shame really.
And if Raúl does leave at the end of the season I'd rather see him be killed off than leave/transfer, because that could help make the squad realize that they should have appreciated Barba more (apart from Carisi maybe)
I am more worried about Dodds Jr. though. I didn't really care for him when he was first introduced. He was kind of just there; I neither liked him nor disliked him. But I've come to like him more and more these past couple of episodes.
But with him still not being part of the main cast, his recent absence and Andy Karl being busy with his musical, I don't know...

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

(I apologize for any spelling mistakes etc. that might have made this hard to read, but as I said I'm on my phone and I already had to write this 3 times because the page kept reloading)

@A.J. - are you outside the US? The video may not play outside the US. The video also seems to be on autoplay - which is annoying to me as well and may be why the page keeps reloading. I may replace the video with the original link and see if that doesn't help!

Note to all - i can't seem to get this video off an autoplay setting, so I have replaced the video with my original link to the video on the E! site.

If Raul leaves I'd rather not have him killed. He could return later in a guest role. For those of us who don' t live NY and wouldn't be able to see Raul on Broadway, a guest appearance would be better. On the other hand I'd prefer Barba to be in season 18.

I had a feeling they would go for a tear jerker since it's also Warren's last episode. I do remember him saying in an article that if Olivia doesn't hit rock bottom by the finale it'll be a hard fall. So I'm wondering if her drinking will factor in. I'm wondering if something is gonna happen to Dodds Jr as well, since Andy has signed on to a play. Maybe that could be the something tragic? I love Noah, but I hope it's nothing with him. The Noah drama can go a bit overboard at times. This may sound bad, but I hope the something beautiful has nothing to do with Tucker. Even if he's changes, I still don't like the character. It's actually a credit to Bobby's acting to have a character so disliked.
One thing I'm curious about, is when she said the finale will carry obverse or set up next season (can't remember her exact words). What if the new show runner doesn't carry on with Warren's ideas? Have they been meeting & discussing his plans, or will he come in next season with his own vision?

I'm putting my money on Dodds Jr dies, and Tucker proposes. I remember reading somewhere that Leight said he would leave the show right where he wants it, and he seems very into wanting Olivia in a relationship....At first the idea of Tuckson totally horrified me, but now I'm behind it. Tucker can be kind of charming and he showed a couple Elliot-like traits in the scenes surrounding Cousin Eugene.....about the chemistry between them, I think Olivia's character is usually a little awkward demonstrating chemistry...something about her....

MysticLady said...

I agree with Sarah: it will be Dodds Jr dying and Tucker proposing. I'm very meh about the latter. It stills confuses me, that whole relationship, but eventually Olivia would be with someone. She seems to want to settle with someone with similar traits to Elliot cause she couldn't get him. That sounds like a shipper thing to say but it seems true to me *shrugs*.

I'm sadden with the direction the show has gone. Like someone mentioned in a previous post, it has become a soap opera. All the drama between the storylines and the characters' personal lives just made it go that way.

I am trying to think what could be tragic and wonderful at the same time. I agree that it looks like either Dodd's JR. or Barba is killed and that Tucker proposes. I hate to think that they kill off Noah or Tucker. But then again who knows.

Chris, what is your take on this video? Raul Esparza is my favorite part of SVU. Do you think he will be back for Season 18?

Chris Zimmer said...

Note to all: I found the video on YouTube and have embedded it. Hopefully this version will work for everyone!

Chris Zimmer said...

@Cappi: I've been wondering all season - with Raul's spotty appearances on the show, if he would be coming back for another season as a regular. As Warren Leight brought Raul into the fold and since Warren is out as showrunner when this season ends, my guess is there is a 75% chance Raul will be gone too. As far as what Mariska said in the video, since Andy Karl has signed on for a play, my guess is he will be out one way of the other, and Dodds could make an exit with some sort of "tragedy." Frankly, it would be just mean to have anything happen to Noah at this point, seeing that they made such a huge deal of Benson getting custody and almost forced fans to be invested in that story line. I just hope that Warren doesn't paint new showrunner Rick Eid into a corner with any season finale story line. (It would be like when Aaron Sorkin left "The West Wing" with a a massive cliffhanger and the new showrunner had the task of trying to get the mess resolved. I don't think the show was ever the same.)

I have a bad feeling that Olivia's drinking will indirectly lead to some tragedy, probably concerning Dodds. I really hope Tucker doesn't propose. I thought the Cassidy relationship was bad, but I really can't buy into it.

Hi! I'm a long-time reader, first-time commenter. I don't think I buy that Tucker is going to propose, because they haven't been dating very long. But stranger things have happened!

I actually just wanted to point something out re: Raúl. He's had six absences this season, less than any other season he's been in thus far. It just felt like more because of how the hiatuses fell in regards to episodes where he wasn't present, I think, when in fact he's had the most appearances during this season. Even though WL is the man who brought him on-board to begin with, he's made clear in numerous interviews how attached he is to Mariska, to the message SVU represents, and to the atmosphere the show has for him, so I don't believe it's any more likely he'll walk than it is for the rest of the cast and crew. It's more likely the "tragedy" has to do with Dodds or with Olivia's drinking problem, since the former will have other obligations soon and WL has said the latter is going to rear its ugly head before the season ends.

Just my two cents!

I hope I'm wrong, but maybe the tragic does have something to do with her drinking, accident or something someone get hurts, she enters a program that will take her to the end of season 18 and her and tucker get engaged and off they go with Noah as a family. I can't see it being drinking though maybe she gets hurt real bad and decides that for Noah it is best she leave svu, her and tucker marry. She did say she's tired and had a lot on her plate. I really hope she doesn't leave, but she's been on the show from the start.

I don’t think so. Warren is the person who brought him on, but after that, he’s not the reason he’s stayed on there. He has the talent and people love Barba. Plus, Raul has said how much he loves being a part of this show so I don’t think Warren leaving will sway Raul at all.

Chris Zimmer said...

@kat - I guess we will have to see what the new showrunner thinks. He may also like Raul and then again, he may want someone of his own choosing as an ADA.

I can tell it's unlikely that things will go my way at this point, but I just hope that Barba is safe and Tucker does not propose. If someone is going to deserve Olivia, it's going to take more than a couple episodes to convince me. And to be honest, the ONLY reason I watch SVU anymore is because of the combination of Barba & Olivia, and it's the same case for many people (not all, I know). If either of their characters left I'm just not sure I could tune in anymore. Barba really brought something fresh and undeniably entertaining to the show. Whether they should be together or something, eh I guess I'd like to see it but not a necessity--as long as they both stay. As far as Dodds goes, I think it's likely he will die. I certainly hope not though. I actually have grown to really like his character; something I couldn't find with other newer characters *cough cough Rollins*. Usually I can't connect super easily but I love him as well as Carisi. Hopefully they are there to stay, as well as Ice-T... We saw a lot less of him this season which makes me suspicious but he is an important character and one of only two originals so I think it's important for him to stay.

Unknown said...

Don't worry about Ice T. He's staying. He wants to reach 21 seasons.

There was a photo on one of the filming on location sites today. Chief Dodds was posing with some kids for a photo. He is covered in blood: on his shirt and in his hands. I think the death will be one of the Dodds.

I think Dodds will die, Olivia's drinking will have comsequences and Tucker will move in with her and stands by her as she faces recovery. My guess.
