Meloni, Hargitay Staying With SVU, Lahti New ADA

Michael Ausiello of EW.com has two big scoops to report on Law & Order SVU. First big story: Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay have signed to stay on for two more years of the show. While the show is only renewed for one more season right now, if NBC should renew it after this next season, Chris and Mariska will be a part of it. Michael reports that we don’t know who “budged” during negotiations, but that “but indications are that a very happy compromise was forged that sweetens the duo's $385K-per-episode salary. In exchange, both actors agreed to add a second year to their pacts.”

Second big story: Christine Lahti has been hired as the show's newest ADA. Ausiello reports that “Lahti will appear in next season's first four episodes, after which she'll pass the rotating ADA baton back to the returning Stephanie March.”
An excellent choice, I say!

Good news all around...though, truth be told, I never really doubted that Meloni and Hargitay would return. As long as the show stays on the air, there's really simply too much money involved for them to back out of such an opportunity.

Christine Lahti is an interesting casting choice, though it does create another instance of a 'clone' in the L&O canon, since she was a regular castmember on the L&O-verse series Chicago Hope. I bet she'll be playing the role of the Special Victims Unit Bureau Chief ADA, since that position has been vacant ever since Donnelly became a judge...

Christine is one of my favorite actors, and I'm tickled she'll be "filling in" for Stephanie until she can resume her role permanently...

Does anyone know what happens if SVU is canceled after one more season? Do Chris and Mariska get paid anyway, or only if there is a second season? (I'm not wishing for it to be canceled, of course, but just wondered "what if")

I would love it if Amy Carslon (L&O:TBJ) could resume her role as ADA Kelly Gaffney on SVU, I think she would be perfect even if it's just a guest star (it'll also be a nice nod to the L&O universe).

Wow big surprise that chris and mariska are staying! But it is surprising and good news that cabot will continue to appear in season 11..., i rekon she should be the ada permantly.

You are correct Daniel...CABOT should remain the ADA..if you ask me. She has a good dynamic with the other cast members.
