Is it time for me to move along from this show? Too much Olivia. They come to her for help because she's the best, but do we need reminding weekly of this? I cringed when Olivia decided to hold the victim's hand, as if she had magical powers to revive her where the victim's own mother could not. And then at the end...eye roll. Olivia has the miracle touch. This was one of those episodes that I picked out the perp right away. One more thing, the knife - couldn't they find another knife like the one photographed to test her theory? Why wait for Quantico? The other thing about SVU is the chemistry with the characters is way off, in fact it's just not there anymore.

I haven't always liked the ripped from the headlines eps mainly because it makes me uncomfortable that it is somebody's horrific story that they are very likely still struggling to overcome, not just emotionally but financially, socially. I wonder what it would be like to hv not been consulted but just find that someone is cosplaying your own story on tv and getting rich doing it, and being beloved characters while others find you to be weird and difficult to be close to. These are the places my brain go to. Also hard to see all the words that could be used to describe someone's trauma get whittled down into the word, "headlines". So never been my preferred eps especially when I feel the show's version often ends up feeling cheesy.

All that being said, I liked this ep. The "ripped from the headlines" stuff will never be my faves, that's just me. I think I just get too meta about it. But this was one I was able to watch without cringe. It felt like they made a real effort to narrate Gabby Petito's story in a meaningful way. I thought the opening sequence showing their travel content for social media to be really convincing. I could see that on a reel

I liked the changes they made to the original story, for example, making his suicide attempt upfront instead of at the end which allowed the real-life person to escape prosecution. In this story he lived only to be held accountable.

I followed this case closely at the time so I remember the footage of the traffic stop. This is an element of the story I wish the show's version had kept to. The cops who interviewed G didn't seem to understand how to question a likely victim of DV. They even found her, incorrectly, to be the aggressor. This even tho the whole reason the cops had stopped them in the first place was that witnesses had called 911 to say that they had just seen a man hit a woman really hard. But the officers seemed more sympathetic to him tho and ended up just separating them for the night without charges. I would hv preferred the truth of all that to remain in the fictional version.

I lol'd a little at how quickly they found Chris vs the real life events where it took forever to find Brian w internet sleuths all trying to figure out his location. But despite the brief snicker lol I preferred this version to cut to the chase and keep the story focused on Ellie. Doing a story centred on a fictional character like Yates or Lewis is great. I just think when it ventures into a real-life person it feels more respectful to focus the story on getting justice for them. So to this end, finding Chris almost immediately helped keep the momentum and didn't hv to eat up the limited 42 mins on a manhunt.

I wondered if irl SVU would need to take the phone back from TARU to go find the videos that they did. I think that is literally what TARU is for. To get ping locations and all that yes, but also to go thru the vids. I've seen in other true crime stories they've even been able to go back and find the comments the person left under YouTube videos etc.  I think TARU could hv done what Silva and Bruno did but I didn't mind that it gave us another scene w these 2. The pacing of this rel feels right to me. They're not at each others throats but not immediately best friends either. Just still kind of sussing each other out. We'll se where this goes.

Once again, I liked the end scene w Liv and the vic. It was moving. I loved that she followed up w her like she would with a lucid survivor at the end of a case. And I found her words to bear meaning to survivors not literally in a coma but handicapped in some other way. As I said before, this is the stuff, to me anyway, that distinguishes this show from all the other cop shows.  (part 1/2)

This was yet another ep where the acting has been very good. It really has improved so much this season. I don't feel like I'm watching the cast and guest actors 'pretending' to be these xters. I can stay in the story as tho it is really happening, lighthearted moment or heavy, and that has been a much better experience than previous seasons.

And speaking of the season as a whole, I have been liking it. And I'm ashamed to say how much time I've spent just reflecting on this :) Like I'm trying to figure out what's wrong w me and somewhat afraid to admit it in my comments.

I know a lot of people are not liking the season but I'd be lying if I said the same. I don't know if it is because I loathed the last one so much and even the fact that I'm trying to find an explanation gives me pause. But compared to last season this season feels much more mature and focused and not as gimmicky and all over the place as last season. I also truly started to feel like they were writing eps to troll fans. This season feels like more effort has been made to tell a meaningful story and has felt more believable as a show that wants to support survivors as much as it wants to be entertaining so I've been liking this change. This of course is all subjective.

I have also been liking Benson a lot more than I have in years! This is smthg else I've had to self-reflect on: when I'm annoyed at smthg she said or did I can write paragraphs on end but when I'm drawn to her I wonder if I should say it lol. But I really hv been enjoying her more. And, as someone who has often not liked her heart-to- hearts w survivors, I can't think of one of those this season that bothered me. Instead, they hv been some of my favorite parts of the eps.

I'm frank when I don't like stuff about this series so I feel I should be just as frank when I do. Overall I have been enjoying watching this season, not just putting up with it. I remember earlier seasons where I'd be disappointed when I heard they'd be off for a couple weeks. That eventually grew to indifference. I'm back to where I'd miss the show when it has to skip a few weeks and I'm glad about that. (part 2/2)

This was one of the ripped from the headlines that was just ok...a predictable one & pretty boring
