This episode continues to explore Rollin’s personal struggles with being shot in the line of duty and the related effects on her home life. I’m hoping that Rollins can eventually get through this, but we all know where it eventually leads: to Kelli Giddish leaving the show. Hopefully Rollins and her family – including Carisi – will have a happy ending.
As far as the case, it just didn’t grab me. Maybe it’s because I’ve grown tired of real-life celebrity drama that the fictional stories can’t hold my interest.
Was this supposed to be SVU's "take" on Johnny vs Amber? Complete with female fans taking the guy's side?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that Rollins is going to be put on "medical leave" due to PTSD and not faithfully following up with therapy.
I didn't dislike the episode but I didn't love it either. @ChiTownGal it did seem like the Johnny vs Amber thing a bit and both of those people turn me off so I didn't care for this story here. I hope they don't spend too much of every episode on Rollins and her issues. It's okay with me if they give Rollins a "happy ending" but I don't want every episode leading up to that point to keep going over her dealing with the trauma repeatedly. I was never a Rollins fan that much so that could be why I don't care for too much focus on her.
ReplyDeleteWould've been better if the writers had Rollins pass the sgt exam and transfer
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see them resuscitate the character of Rollins but also perplexing that they are breathing life into a xter that is coming to an end. I hv even entertained the thought- tho extremely unlikely- that maybe they plan on bringing her back at some pt. I just hv never seen this much effort put into Rollins. I know they want to give her a 'good' sendoff but sad that we never got this for the other traumatic experiences R has been thru. They start exploring this xter when she's almost out the door. But endlessly, season after season we hv been watching Benson work thru her trauma.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that we get to see some in-depth convos betw R & other xters and it's not just Carisi being all things on to her. Watching her hv some chats w Benson over the last few eps has actually made the Rollisi moments far more palatable. Someone can be dating and still very much isolated. It is good to see her *on screen* having healthy supportive rels outside her romantic one.
I will say tho that it does irk me that this decline in her functioning required *another* traumatic event. They hv written so much for this character to go thru. Even if it wasn't affecting her daily functioning before it is realistic that a decline would hv happened over time since all these multiple traumas were never processed. That it required smthg new i feel is the same thinking that allows someone to believe they hv to invent a new story to get help instead of pointing to a previously revealed trauma. (1/2)
Wasn't the mom that same actress who played the Dina Lohan-alike some years back? I mean, she does it well, but kind of an odd thing to get typecast as.
