Law & Order fans, rejoice! Various sources report that Linus Roache will reprise his Law & Order role as Michael Cutter on Law & Order SVU. TV Guide stated: “When Cutter returns in the Season 13 premiere, titled "Scorched Earth," he has been promoted at the DA's office and is overseeing the ADAs assigned to the Special Victims Unit….If Cutter was a bit of a hot head in the past, the passage of time and some added responsibility in his new job has made him more mature, and perhaps a bit more jaded," executive producer Warren Leight said.”
This makes me very, very happy!

=D! im crying tears of joy literally..I mean if this continues on throughout the season..SVU probably has more years left under its belt =D!
ReplyDeleteSWEET!! Now all we need is McCoy..
ReplyDeleteOh snap, Cutter was the man, this is great news. So he's basically gonna take the Jack McCoy role over Cabot and Novak? Guess the courtroom drama will be back in full force.
ReplyDeleteHargitay, Pino, Ice, Belzer, Florek, Giddish, Tunie, March, Neal, and now Cutter. Let's hope they can afford everyone.
Is he going to be a regular or just one episode?
ReplyDeleteDamn, I miss mothership.
Actually wait, is this just for the season premiere or will we be seeing him on at least a semi-regular basis? Roache is talking like this'll be a regular role.
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is that he will be appearing in more than just this first episode. He is supposed to be the new bureau chief (like Donnelly (Judith Light) was), so I suspect his character will be recurring.
ReplyDeleteYeah Baby!!!!!!!!!! Sweet!!!!
ReplyDeleteDespite the sad news about Chris Meloni, they seem to be doing right with everything else...I mean seriously? I loooove Linus Roach.
ReplyDeleteAwesome news!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best Law & Order news ever! I am so happy to see Linus Roache. I don't know if I'm asking too much, but maybe SVU can try to get away from the sexually-based offenses and the excessive violence and have a few mothership-esque episodes? I'm sorry, but seeing a character blow their brains out and having blood spatter everywhere made me sick. I was never a fan of SVU, but I will definitely be watching this season!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to get greedy, but having McCoy would be even better, at least for one appearance! NBC may be jerks, but they are making me happy with this!
Excellent! I just loved Linus on Law & Order. Michael Cutter was just hitting his stride when L&O was canceled.
ReplyDeleteWith all the good things coming up for SVU, it makes me happy that Meloni is gone. His bloated salary is one of the reasons why SVU couldn't afford to do anything really good. Sure, they spend money on big guest stars, but coming up with a solid legal side to the series is the best thing that's happened to SVU in YEARS!
Squeeeee!!! I love me some Linus!!! With this addition for sure I will be watching.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard this news, angels came from heaven and sang "Hallelujah". Now all we need is Alana de la Garza and I think I might just die a very happy girl.
ReplyDeleteThis could well be the best thing to happen to 'SVU' in a long, long time. Leight might have pulled off the seemingly impossible: revitalise what was fast becoming a staid show. Perhaps he's learnt a trick or two from Rene Balcer?
ReplyDeleteHow is this a promotion? Wasn't he effectively 2IC of the DA's office in Law & Order? SV Bureau Chief is a step down, surely...unless McCoy has told him to clean the department up after the mess its been in...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, continuity aside, this has given me new reason to watch SVU :)
Meloni's boated salary ?
ReplyDeleteYou want quality acting you have to pay for it.Meloni is a quality actor and deserved what he received and in my view both he and Hargitay should have been paid more.
shrugs.
I am happy Linus Roach is joining the cast as he is a quality actor as well. However, I don't expect SVU to become another mothership.People clamoring for that are wasting their time and deluding themselves.
Well I did read an article on TVGuide where Diane Neal states they're returning to the SVU basics from the early seasons, which is a great thing. How many times have people said the first few seasons are the best? We are getting that on top of Diane Neal, on top of Stephanie March, on top of Linus Roache, on top of Mariska staying for the full season opposed to the originally slated half the season appearance. Yes, losing Meloni was a big lost, but wasn't it a huge loss when Jerry Orbach left the original for Trial By Jury? The mothership lost its stride for a few years before acquiring the perfect cast since his departure, and sadly his death. I would LOVE to see Alana de la Garza. She's my favorite actress in L&O.
ReplyDeleteChris Meloni MAY deserve the pay raise, I'm not going to delve into that. As I see it, he can make a living off his then salary. No one truly needs THAT much money. But when you're working at any job for that long, you're going to wait to get paid more for your QUALITY services. However, with a tv show, the more you pay, the more its going to hurt in the long run. You miss your chance to do certain things within a show, because of budget restraints. Am I sad to see Meloni go? Of course I am. The ratings will reflect how hurt the fans are by this. That's what I'm afraid of. And ultimately you can't fault the show or NBC, it was a business decision. Right now, NBCU is paying Hugh Laurie A LOT of money for House. I don't think they can afford to pay Meloni AND Mariska the money they want/deserve. It's just realistically too much for shows that are aging and declining with ratings. House only returned for another (and possibly final)season because Lisa Edelstein chose not to renew her contract.
I know all these people are happy about this news but don't forget the downside. Christopher Meloni left and TPTB hired 5 actors to cover the loss. They didn't hire Roache to make L&O fans happy but to draw them in to watch SVU. The same with rehiring March and Neal. How afraid are they that the new detectives aren't going to be able to pull in viewers by themselves?
ReplyDeletePersonally I never cared for Cutter. But if bringing him in means they are going to bring the legal half of SVU then I'm all for it as long as they hire writers who know about criminal law. It is not enough to figure out who committed crimes if they can't be persecuted and sent it jail. SVU doesn't need more episodes like Venom/Screwed, Witness or Branded. Familiar faces won't overcome bad scripts.
As long as they settle the "ADA-Mess" from last season (I really lost track!) I'm all happy!
ReplyDeleteThis is all great news so far. But lets not count our chickens before they hatch. And I say this because I feel as a fan of the law and order franchise, I felt burnt one too many times last year, just to get my hopes up only to be disappointed.
