  1. Some interesting marketing techniques going on for the relaunch....They reveal more than they know by revealing what they want us to know.Riddle me that.Lots of insecurity and predicatable "protection of own interests".Sometimes its in danger of desperate overkill to the point where it becomes offputting.

There is an opening massacre scene in premiere similar to the opening massacre scene of "To the Bone",season 5 LOCI.
The intent is the same, though LOCI had less budget to play with."To the Bone" was one of the best...with Whoopi Goldberg and Logan.Structurally LOLA is close to Mothership but visually its close to LOCI.

Skeet fans may be interested in the fact the John Wells medical drama "Gimme Shelter" is now in talks to be redeveloped with TNT.Skeet Ulrich was a member of that cast list originally before the pilot was dropped so its possible he has opted to return there.

I hope Wolf is not referring to Balcer and his writing team when he said in an interview that the relaunch episode is better quality than anything written prior.

Whilst it may be better than the previous premiere which wolf himself wrote and which was universally hated by critics and audience, Balcer and his writers did well to save the series.

He should be thanking them. They did alot of good work. The ratings were good, certainly better than Mothership ratings of the last few years. And it was NBCs highest rated new drama. The network has stated that. I call that being successful. Those writers, under Balcer, made the show credible.

It wasnt their fault you only got to see major characters for 20minutes every two weeks, not enough for audience to relate to. Thats the fault of the formula and the split shift.Who is responsible for that?

  2. Btw Janet (and All Things), you may be interested to know that Season 17 of the mothership is currently playing on Fridays at 10pm on the newly rebranded Channel 5 in the UK. They've ditched their own titles and kept the classic American look, music and titles with the Zirnkilton V/O etc. ...So refreshing and comforting!

  3. ah comforting.."the past is a foreign country...etc...etc...

In all those years of production the franchise has never had a woman showrunner...20 years and all those series...all men. That is unbalanced statistically since women are half the population at least.

Youd think they would have had at least one women in such a leadership position. Is it the gender divide where women always assist but rarely run things?

Theres a vacancy at SVU isnt there? Now that really would be a "first" to shout about...

But how would they cope in what Chris Noth once described as a "testosterone driven atmosphere" ?

  4. gahks - thanks for the info. It's nice that they recognize the importance of the classic intro - it really does help to reinforce the brand.

  5. Yes, All Things. I welcome the move entirely, although I'm not sure whether it was for budgeting reasons (obviously creating your own titles takes time, money and so forth) or simply out of respect for the original show now that it's been cancelled?

Janet: if you ask me, I'd be looking to Judith McCreary or Amanda Green as female candidates for 'SVU' showrunners! Although I really like the idea of hiring back Robert Palm, the showrunner on the first season.
