Here are the details for a new episode of Law & Order Los Angeles, “Harbor City” :

Law & Order Los Angeles “Harbor City” Air Date October 13, 2010 (10PM ET/9C Wednesday NBC)

DETECTIVES WINTERS (SKEET ULRICH) AND JARUSZALSKI (COREY STOLL) COMB THE BEACH TO INVESTIGATE THE MURDER OF A PRO SURFER

When former surf champion Trevor Knight (Yves Bright) returns home to help his ailing mother, it ultimately results in his untimely death. Initially, Detectives Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich) and Tomas "TJ" Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll) are lead to believe that it was not only a robbery gone wrong, but possibly an inside job. Regina Hall also stars.

  2. This was the "Law & Order: LA" I'd been looking forward to - one that exposes a side of the city we haven't seen before on television!

  3. At the moment Terrence Howard is the character thats going to win it for them...especially if,as he says in an interview,he bases alot of it on Nelson Mandela.

    He looks riveting in previews.
Episode 2 might do better than episode 1 in ratings!

  4. Harbor City was written by Judy McCarthy.I dont know her.

Echo Park (tonights episode) was written by Peter Blauner.Playa Vista was written by Julie Martin.

Both Peter Blauner and Julie martin wrote under warren leight when he was showrunner of LOCI in season 6/7.Interesting.

Ive spoken elsewhere about the LOCI influence on LOLA from both the Leight and Balcer years, but now it seems Balcer has brought in writers who were working with Leight in seasons 6/7 when LOCI was peaking in ratings on USA and before the disaster of seasons 8/9.. Also they have brought in Peter Coyote which intrigues me since he was so prominent in Self Made, LOCI season 7.

Is this an attempt to harmonise? What is Balcer, the undercover idealist, up to?!

Ive always loved the work of both showrunners, Balcer and Leight, and I always wanted a demonstration of togetherness instead of the rivalry that eventually seemed to pull LOCI apart. So Im hoping this might be that acknowledgement in LOLA.

I didn’t like the premiere writing but maybe it will improve now that Balcer and these writers are onboard…so long as they keep away from the polemics of Mothership Moralogues!

I did recognise the LOCI aesthetics shining through LOLA, the use of music, lighting, camera, staging etc. Maybe now we will see the LOCI writing shining through as well, with recurring motifs, character depth, ironic undertones ( like the modern Trevor Knight who rides the waves instead of a horse in Harbour City!), thematic structure and metaphysical content, because LOCI was always the most challenging of the franchise, and certainly the one with most universal appeal outside America. If it does all that it should be worthy of an Emmy too!

If all that is happening, wouldn’t it be something if episode 2 increased viewership over the premiere? That would defy the trend and cause a sensation.

It would also be something if Balcer and Leight reunited to finish LOCI. That would be a real “hero’s journey”.

LOLA and LOCI can dance together.
