Megan Boone Added to Law & Order LA Cast

The Law & Order LA regular cast has gotten bigger. Nellie Andreeva of Deadline.com reports that Megan Boone has joined the cast of Law & Order: LA to play one of the new Deputy District Attorneys (her tentative name: Lauren Gardner). Nellie explains that “when the ADA duties were split in two after Alfred Molina and Terrence Howard signed on to play different ADAs each appearing in roughly half of the episodes, each of them needed his own assistant, thus the need for two DDAs on the show. Regina Hall was recently cast as DDA Eva Price, who assists Molina. Boone will be Howard's DDA.”

  1. Rene Balcer has experience with alternating pairs of detectives, when Chris Noth joined the 'CI' cast back in season 5. But it will be interesting to see how the writers manage to differentiate the two prosecutor pairings, as that has never been done before on a 'Law & Order' show. I wonder who will get the Shirley Sherrod storyline?

  2. So this show won't have a character like Adam Schiff, Arthur Branch (Distric Attorney) in the mothership?

  3. No, doesn't look that way, Leo. A bit of a pity, in my opinion. I thought they had DAs in LA County, though?

  4. I'm depressed there's no more Jack McCoy! :(

  5. Neal Baer is probably going to make Waterston a recurring character on SVU... it's better than nothing. Especially since Paula Patton is coming in to play ADA Mikka Von.

  6. Of course LA has a chief DA...
Maybe at some point they'll introduce that person as a recurring character...

I don't have anything against the cast...
I just have a beef with Dick Wolf over his mishandling of CI.

  7. I have a "beef" with Dick Wolf over his mishandling of the mothership. CI's been dead since it's move to USA... it's 'death date' was July 6, 2010 I'm afraid.

It seemed he made very few attempts to keep the mothership alive on NBC or AMC (or any other network). MORE could have been done to keep the original show going. Dick Wolf is going to get rich of L&O:LA. SVU, CI, and L&O... nothing to him anymore and you can tell by the way the mothership and CI have went down.

Wolf did this. All Things you were wrong to delete my comment I said nothing out the way to any user here or you and I said no vulgar language... on what grounds (other than you can) did you have to delete my comment?

I would like a response. Please?

  8. It was an accident. I had two blog posts open at the same time and had to delete a comment that WAS inappropriate and I accidentally deleted yours. (That's what U get for trying to do two things at once!)

  9. Well then I do want to apologize All Things... I didn't want to make the sound snappy but I was confused when I saw my comment 'get a boot' so to say.

Hey... accidents happen. Though what Dick Wolf let happen to the mothership wasn't an accident.

  10. To those who continue to complain about the mothership cancellation:

DW did actually try to do a lot to keep it alive, but the problem was that the TNT deal (done in 1998 when we had a completely different business environment to now) restricted what DW could do to keep the mothership alive. As said, in the end, I suspect the TNT deal may have caused the cancelation because it prevented NBC from being able to "repurpose" the mothership on USA Network. That's probably why the LA version got greenlighted, since NBC can aired "repurposed" episodes on USA Network. It's also why I say it's possible the mothership could come back in 2012-'13, AFTER the TNT deal expires and NBC WOULD be able to "repurpose" mothership episodes on USA.

  11. Network's make deals for shows all the time whether they are currently running or not.

SVU is the most used "Law & Order" on a network. It's on USA, sleuth, My NetworkTV, OXYGEN, some say even the CW and Hallmark Channel (US) tried to take a grab at SVU for episodes. Wolf made deals for SVU and CI (even TBJ). WE KNOW he's going to make a deal for LOLA to air on USA (repurposed). Why can't even reruns run on other networks (other than TNT)?

It's not all about the '98 contract. If TNT's contract ends in 2012-2013... Wolf needs to invest in getting the mothership back... I don't even care if none of the cast even want to return. We need a good "L&O" in NYC and in LA.

SVU is going down hill (thanks to Neal Baer and Ted Kothceff), rumors say CI is going/gone (which I'm not surprised, Walon Green f***ed up CI's last two seasons).

It's a mess if you ask me. The only franchise that may be running past 2014 is the "NCIS" franchise. I think "LA NCIS" will fail before the original one. "CSI: Miami" is probably the strongest of the "CSI fanbase" so it may go past 2014.

I can't wait to see LOLA... so I can make my final judgement on the current running "L&O's"

  12. Dallas:

As far as the mothership, it IS all about the 1998 contract that expires I believe in August 2012.

That deal was done before "repurposing" was even a consideration at all. No one could have thought in 1998 how much of a factor "repurposing" could have been in 2010 for NBC-Universal's shows they own themselves (besides the other "franchise" shows, which includes it being done in reverse with "CI", "House," which airs on FOX airs "repurposed" on USA Network). The deal DW and NBC-Universal still have with TNT prevent such "repurposing" with the mothership, and because that deal remains in place, it's likely why NBC cancelled the mothership, even with TNT agreeing to pay fees for repeats for a 21st season because those fees likely were not enough to cover costs without NBC being able to first air "repurposed" episodes on USA Network and other NBC-Universal outlets, something Turner Broadcasting (TNT's parent) likely would have been totally against. That's also why I can still see it come back in September 2012, AFTER TNT's deal expires and NBC would be free to "repurpose" the mothership on USA Network (and if by then DW changes his mind on other outlets, Hulu, OnDemand, etc.).

Saying that, for all we know once the deal with Comcast goes through, and especially if as some expect Jeff Zucker is fired/forced out, we could find out the real reasons Zucker reneged on a deal that had been in place for two months. I still say there's a possibility that it was to "punish" Turner for signing Conan o'Brien to a new show on TBS because of Zucker's long-running personal grudge with Conan (dating back to the mid-1980's when both were at Harvard) and/or because it looks like CNN (like TBS, a sister network of TNT) may be merging news operations with CBS along with the new deal between Turner and CBS concerning the NCAA Tournament. Those could also been factors for all we know.

  13. Merging news operations..Is that why Christian Amampour is on Face the Nation now ?

    shrugs...

I am not in favor of that..it will mean layoffs and is a bandaid approach.

I don't see the Mothership ever coming back.I feel it is a pipedream some of you have. Not dissing you for having it..but tis' only wishful thinking.
