Ausiello Reports F.Murray Abraham To Play Zach Nichol’s father

EW’s Super-Scooper Michael Ausiello reports that Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham is slated to play Zach Nichols’ (Jeff Goldblum) father on Law & Order Criminal Intent. Now that’s what I call a great guest star!

  1. It is rumored that for season 21 of the original Law & Order that we can expect some new writers and executive producers to come in for the show.

Can you provide some coroboration or keep us informed on some info like that All Things?

  2. So we had Gorens father and now we have Nichols father.Havent we covered that angle before? Why not give him a disturbing mother while you are at it! What else do they want to copy since they lack originality! This show is becoming a pale imitation of its better days.....much like the whole franchise actually!
Mothership seasons 1-5 and LOCI seasons 1-7 were exciting and creative.

  3. The "father issue" has been done in most tv drama's, House as well, they also all have a nemesis too so Nicole wasn't unique in that respect either. I remember that they said they were going to bring Nichols' father into the series near the end of Series 8 since they covered his characters problems with his father in that season, I should imagine that Nichols father is his nemesis much like Mozarts father was ( well in Amadeus anyway).

  4. "most tv dramas",yes..but The Law and Orders pride themselves on not being like most tv dramas in this respect. Will it be like Smallville then....Julian Glover appears in both.

Diehard Law and Order fans arent going to warm to more "personal" stuff since they complained enough at the last lot of personal stuff.

  5. LOCI used to be a "thinking man's" show. It was fun to watch how the detectives put the clues together while eliminating the red herrings to solve crimes. Those days, along with Goren and Eames are gone forever. LOCI has been dumbed down for the mainstream audience who prefers spoon-fed entertainment.

I don't even know why I am bothering to comment. I'm not even watching this show any longer.

  6. Lemie, if I get any information I will pass it along. So far I haven't heard anything about how season 21 will look!

  7. @Lemle, All Things: on the L&O Wikipedia page, the season finale writers are listed as Rene Balcer, Keith Eisner and Michael S. Chernuchin. I suspect this may be to allow for Balcer to go back to CI and Chernuchin (who is a seasoned L&O writer, I might add) to join Ed Zuckerman and the other current staff at the mothership. If this is true, I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with, and who they get to star as Epatha's replacement as lieutenant! I also want d'Onofrio and Erbe back as Goren and Eames to join Balcer in resuscitating CI!

  8. I think Balcer is heading Law and Order Los Angeles. He talked about starting up a police procedural in Los angeles in an interview.

  9. Wow. I have always been a fan of the mothership series and less of a fan to LOCI, because it lacked speed and relative density of the story. But lately, season 8 with Nichols has been my favourite season so far! I was not really that interested with Goren's personal suffurings..and was never fully able to follow the logic of his investigation..wheras Nichols takes more of a academic approach and is kind enough to explain his theories on which his deduction is based.
And I agree, enough of the personal life stories!

  10. @ lawandorduck

I disagree with every thing you just said. What you said reverse it. I liked LOCI from seasons 1-7 and L&O from seasons 12-17 before Rene Bacler went back and made the show about politics and other ripped from headline cases. Rene Balcer and D'Onofrio/Erbe need to team up and go back to LOCI.

  11. Wow, just because they're bringing a character's father into the picture doesn't mean it's the end of the world...or the start of a crappy arc.

It's not like we're going to find out it's not really his father and his real father is a serial killer and really his mom isn't his mom either and blah blah blah. It's just his dad, RELAX.

I disagree that the show's been dumbed down, since there's been plenty of clunkers from previous seasons. I just think fans won't let the show grow. They obviously don't like personal stories, and they're obviously against humor and fun being in the show, and they obviously don't like social commentary on current events.

  12. This show isnt growing at all. Its just repeating itself endlessly.

If it was growing it would have a completely different detective from Goren instead of the poor replica in Nichols.
