Another great episode with a thought provoking topic. Although I do think the season 20, episode 5, Dignity did the whole abortion angle better. Enjoyed a few more side characters being added and the citing of case law during the legal side of the episode.
After the last two episodes and the lack of Sam (Odelya Halevi) lacking any real input I thought maybe they were toning her down a bit but nope. She was back to her old hotheaded, led by emotions self here. I can officially say I don’t like or care for her character and find her to be the wink link of the cast. She has to go.
A couple of side notes. It’s now episode 4 and I guess Connie Shi as Detective Violet Yee is done with the series after two seasons. Oh and that end scene with Nolan and his dad hit like a gut punch. I’m glad that the Mothership has remembered that less is more when it comes to the backstories on our characters.
I also noticed Detective Yee has been absent. I suppose cost-cutting is to blame? I think we differ on opinion of Maroun. I think she's got more Jack McCoy in her and is more driven for justice than Price, who always seems afraid to take a hard stance, or lacks confidence in his ability to win. Now at the end we find out why he seemed so reluctant to go for a murder conviction - he probably really hoped that she'd be able to come back from that brain injury. At least it seems his dad was not on life support but clearly barely hanging on, but maybe there is more hope for him than for the victim. Still, I would think Price would take a harder line to someone who put a family member in such a horrible position.
I could see the McCoy in her I suppose. I guess my problem is she allows her past experiences to influence that pursuit for justice and it’s not black and white like it was with Jack.
Rewatching the episode on a lazy Saturday at home and I guess this is the L&O need in me but they finally updated the DA Office’s directory and it now lists Baxter as the DA. But some fun side notes/changes. They now refer to Price as the Chief Asst. DA instead of EADA. I wonder if that is to reflect a real life change in NY? Also while everything else has been changed to reflect the revival they have left Connie Rubirosa (Alana de la Garza‘s character) up as an executive assistant. Probably just an easter egg but I guess the transfer to LA didn’t work out! 😂
